Random Sleep Oddities

Two random Josiah sleep stories:
This picture is from a lazy day we had. I was exhausted and not feeling well and need to take care of a few things, so Josiah got to watch his Cars movie. I didn't realize the ending was so close to nap time. I looked over from my phone conversation and the child was as pictured, fast asleep. Poor child had to put himself to bed for nap!

The other random event happened the other night. Jonathan and I are still puzzled over it. I was getting up for one of my middle-of-the-night bathroom trips, when I looked over and swear I saw Josiah climb into our bed. I really thought I might be dreaming because he hardly ever leaves his bed. He still calls us to come get him in the morning. Sure enough, he left his bed, opened his bedroom door and had crawled up on the bed by himself and was lying there next to Jonathan. He didn't sound really scared, just calmly told us there were fire trucks in his bed. He's stuck with that story the next morning and told me all the details about it. He told Daddy he'd been very brave. I bet he was - it was really dark!
If it had turned into a regular occurrence, we would have had to put a stop to it, but that night we let him sleep us.

Other People's Pictures

Just to keep things from getting stale on the blog, I've stolen some pictures from other people.

First a big shout out to our brothers...

My brother Parker earned his Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. And doesn't he look divine...

And Jonathan's brother David earned a Master's in Teaching from NC State.
We're so proud of both of you guys! Congratulations to you (and the families who supported you through it).

Josiah visited Mimi and Granddadd's over Mother's Day weekend while Jonathan and I went house-hunting in Hickory. I stole this cute picture from Amy of the boys with their grands.

Josiah showing Caleb proper train technique. He talks about Caleb quite a bit these days. "Caleb's not a baby anymore. He's a big boy."

Giving cousin Caleb a ride in the coupe.

Nana and Pop came in town a few weekends ago to watch Josiah while Jonathan and I went to a dinner for internal medicine. Here's one from Pop of Josiah in Daddy's shoes.

"Hanging out" with Daddy

And I stole this picture from the banquet from Melanie - I need to pay that girl some copyright for all the pictures I steal from her!

37 Weeks

It struck me the other day that I'm already sorely neglecting this second child, at least on the blog. I'm 37 weeks, and as much as we've known it's coming, I feel very unprepared. Do I have any idea what's about to hit me? I'm so grateful for this precious life growing inside me again, and I'm trying to take moments in the next few weeks to savor that and mentally prepare for the idea of a whole other life that will be entering our family shortly.

A few things I want to remember about this pregnancy:
  • This boy seems to move differently. With Josiah, I don't remember looking at my abdomen and seeing big shifts and limbs moving. He likes leaning into my rib cage like Josiah did though.
  • Food preferences are similar. Orange juice has been the best thing in the world.
  • I remember with the first pregnancy being confused when people told me I should sit down and stay out of the heat and not lift things or look at me pitifully at how uncomfortable I must be. But this pregnancy I can relate to all of that reasoning. I've had more back pain, nothing unbearable, but I know not to overdo certain things or I'll pay for it later. I get overheated more easily, and I start to feel really bad when my blood sugar drops. And I'm way more tired than last time - it might be because I'm chasing after this toddler! I get uncomfortable when I sit or stand for too long. These are all common pregnancy discomforts, but I was never bothered by them during the first pregnancy. I'm definitely not complaining because it's still been a really easy pregnancy comparatively.
  • I've kept exercising, mostly my cycling class and the cybex machine (like an elliptical, but just the legs). I had to stop running early and change the settings of my cycle because it was making me have back pain.
  • My sense of smell has lessened with pregnancy. I've heard of people's senses getting more acute with pregnancy, but never less. It's a little frustrating because I've always been prideful about my sense of smell.
  • Josiah says his baby brother's name is going to be Juice. Juice Black. Juice comes from Uncle Ronnie calling him Juice as a joke. I don't think Josiah likes the nickname very much, so he's trying to pass it off.

Josiah Says...

LL: I'm thankful for you, Josiah.
Josiah: I'm thankful for Jack's garbage truck.

Seeing Daddy after getting picked up from the nursery.
Josiah: I love you, Daddy. You're my best friend.

Granddaddy: "Would you like a toy?"
Josiah: "What kind of toy?"
G: "I don't know. I've not seen it before."
J: "Of course you know."

He also does this to me while we're out in public...
Josiah: What's her name?
LL: I don't know. I don't know that person.
J: Of course you know. Of course you do.

Josiah: You be the snake. I'll be the mouse-pig. [Insert gruffling mouse-pig noise]

Car Wash

Jonathan sweetly washed both our cars this weekend, and Josiah was his "helper." It made for some very cute pictures.

Have you noticed he likes to drink from fountains of water?

Airplane!

Jonathan and I made our second trip to Hickory to look for houses. This time we took Josiah on the flight with us. Mimi, Granddaddy, Anna and one of her friends met us in Charlotte to take Josiah for the weekend.

Josiah got to try out his fun Thomas rolling backpack. Gabriella, a sweet lady who helps Mom at her house, gave it to him. He thought a rolling bag was way more fun than a backpack.

This picture didn't capture it best, but they looked so cute with their two rolling bags together.

Looking at the airplanes.

I'm sure Daddy was much better at explaining everything than Mommy.

I love how they both have their chins tipped with the same observant look.

I was sad to be away from my boy on Mother's Day, but it also a nice treat to have a weekend away where I didn't have to cook or clean anything! Josiah had a blast with his grandparents.

Splash Area

First, here's a picture from Melanie of the boy and I at the zoo.
(Note: still need a stroller at the zoo. Carrying a 28-pound toddler on my shoulders while 8-months pregnant with a backpack in 90-degree heat is not a good idea.)

Here is Josiah at the splash area. He tentatively strolled in...

Tested the water with his feet...

Touched the fountains...

Got splashed a little, laughed...

Tried it out for himself. Hair is still dry...

Decides it's more fun to drink from the fountains...

"This is pretty fun!"

We ran into our buddy Noah.

Soaking wet and had a blast!
