Memorial Day Trip

We headed over to Wake Forest to visit the Moseleys Sunday and Monday.

Anna helping Micah walk.

Aunt Amy and Uncle Jonathan with their respective nephews.

3 out of 4 cousins playing the piano. Then we remembered that Anna was upstairs suffering with a headache. Piano banging was not a kind noise :(

Jonathan bonding with Jacob.

Mimi feeding Micah. He eats really well at Mimi's house; let's just say he gave his "more" sign a lot of use and ate his weight in watermelon and sausage rolls.

Reading with Granddaddy. How precious is that picture?

More walking practice!

Reading with Mimi.

Chatting about something...

Sandy Boys

We headed over to a fun playground nearby. For some reason that I don't understand, all Hickory playgrounds have sand as their base. I don't know why, but it always makes for very dirty playground trips. This one also has a creek, so we were dirty, wet and fun!

He really loves his sippie cup. I think it might actually be a comfort object for him.

Water Day With the Morgans

We got to spend a morning this week with the Morgan kids. We broke out the pool, slip 'n' slide, and a fun new sprinkler that Nana and Pop found for us.

Micah and Kallie sharing some cheese crackers.

Davis in the sprinkler

How Josiah does the slip 'n' slide.

Mattie having fun!

My boys went back out after naps.

Summer is fun!

Looking like a drowned rat, but he loves the water.

Simmons Sleepover

A week of so ago, our buddies Audrey and Gareth spent the day with us. The played outside and got hot and sweaty, and then we cooled off inside with a Thomas movie.

.
They started on the couch together.

Gareth got a little bored and moved upstairs to play, but the lure of Thomas brought him back to the top of the stairs.

These two refused to nap earlier. But while watching the movie they got still and quiet and sleepy...

Josiah slept maybe 10-15 minutes, but Audrey crashed for almost 2 hours, despite many wakening events going on around her.

Peas in a Pod

This is Josiah and our neighbor Mattie. They are two peas in a pod. Since the weather has gotten warmer, they've been playing with each other all the time.

Conqueror!

Josiah has conquered so many of his fears and challenges lately. He finally started pedaling his tricycle last week. We had the Simmons kids over, and I think they helped him realize how fun it is!

Gareth's "trick" was to pedal really fast onto the grass and let the grass stop him. Josiah does this now too (but not quite as fast).

Sweet brother moment.

And the big tricycle, too! Did you know he could ride vertical? What a trick!

This past week he also conquered the his fear of the bounce house! We got invited to a preschool friend's birthday, and she had one. He actually seemed to be having a good time inside. I'm happy for the positive peer pressure.

This is not one of his areas of struggle, but I think he also officially read his first word this week. I've been working on sight recognition of words with him, and when he's being cooperative, he easily follows my request to find the word starting with "c," or I'll point to a word over and over again and then have him find it. But this time we were doing an Eric Carle book where you match the picture of the animal with the written word of the sound it makes. I was flipping through and told him to stop me when he saw the word "meow." I flipped by and he stopped me saying, "That's it!" He did it again with another word, but then he got obstinate when I got too proud of him.

Micah at 11 Months

"What is that Mr. Giraffe? Only 1 month until my birthday?

"I see some gray hairs. We are getting old."

"Time flies, right Mom?"

"Better get started planning my party. Gotta go!"
  • This kid is on the move big time! He loves to crawl. He getting more balanced standing/walking, but I suspect he won't be officially walking by the time he's one.
  • He really loves balls. He cackles whenever he seems one and throws pretty well.

  • He started signing "more" this month. He pretty consistently calls Jonathan "A-da" and ball "ba-ba." He's added a "na-ne" consonant.

  • He seems to like meat more than his brother, but Josiah liked it a little more at this age. He's not really gone for cheese yet, but we'll see if all this changes.

  • He's allergic to something; we just haven't figured it out yet. It's either something in some types of yogurt, something outdoors or animal-related. I think. He's broken out in hives a couple of times, and we're keeping tracking of what he's been exposed to, but no clear link yet.
